Awakening: An interactive Flower
Interactive Media, Prototyping, Arduino
Design Process
The first step was to find inspiration for the product design. It was a process of researching, brainstorming, and exploring different possibilities before I finally came up with a concept that resonated with me. As a form for the future product, I chose the shape of water lily. As a prototyping material, I used regular coffee filters which allowed me to shape petals easily.Filters provided a nice diffuse effect. The pliability of the material allowed the use of layers to create the desired volume, and also made it possible to sew Lilypad components together.
Scenario
The flower is in an inactive initial state attracting attention by smoothly shimmering with dotted lights. When the flower is picked up, it awakens and starts pulsating mimicking the beating of a heart, and glowing with colorful lights. The vibrations from the motor add to the sensory experience, giving the impression that the flower has come alive in one's hand.Being picked up, the flower comes to life with a pulsating heartbeat-like light and subtle vibrations, creating an immersive tactile experience.
